Suicide Thoughts and Behaviour Support
Prioritizing Suicide Prevention
Service Description
Suicide ideation counselling involves providing compassionate support and guidance to individuals struggling with thoughts of ending their own lives. It's a delicate process that requires an empathetic, non-judgmental approach to help the person in crisis feel heard, validated, and supported. Through active listening and gentle questioning, the counsellor aims to understand the root causes and triggers behind the suicidal thoughts, whether it stems from depression, trauma, hopelessness, or other mental health challenges. Together, the counsellor and client explore coping strategies and techniques to manage and alleviate the distressing thoughts, such as mindfulness, emotion regulation, and cognitive reframing. The counselor may also assist in developing a safety plan with concrete steps to take during a crisis, including identifying trusted supports to reach out to. Ultimately, suicide ideation counselling is about instilling hope, fostering resilience, and empowering the individual to find reasons for living and alternative solutions to their struggles. With patience, understanding, and evidence-based therapeutic approaches, the healing journey can lead to renewed purpose, improved mental well-being, and a life free from the grip of suicidal thoughts.
